Semi-Autonomous Animated Actors
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes an interdisciplinary experiment in controlling semi-autonomous animated human forms with natural language input. These computer-generated characters resemble traditional stage actors, in that they are more autonomous than traditional hand-guided animated characters, and less autonomous than fully improvisational agents. We introduce the desktop tkeatev metaphor, reserving for users the creative role of a theatrical writer or director.

Improv: Interactive Improvisational Animation and Music
Improv is a system for the creation of real-time behavior-based animated actors. There have been several recent efforts to build network distributed autonomous agents, but in general, these efforts do not focus on the author’s view. To create rich interactive worlds inhabited by believable animated actors, authors need the proper tools. Improv provides tools to create actors that respond to use...

ion, and it should also include a mechanism whereby the control can be specified as weighted preferences for and against actions and behaviors. Blumberg and Galyean have proposed, and implemented just such an architecture for animated autonomous creatures. This architecture is summarized in Figure 1. The remainder of this paper highlights how external control has been integrated into this archi...
متن کاملAn extended EBDI Model Applied to Autonomous Digital Actors
This paper defines the requirements for Autonomous Digital Actor’s cognitive process, in order to allow them to suggest plans of plausible actions in computer animations. An architecture is proposed, adapted from a traditional EBDI model considering those requirements. This kind of characters are inspired by real human actors and know how to act autonomously following a script, making the creat...
متن کاملReactive Agents in Behavioral Animation
This paper presents actors in behavioral animation as being reactive autonomous agents in a virtual environment. The principles underlying the proposed model are cognition, emergence, situatedness, recursion and cooperation. Also the model is based on a cognitive architecture where both controlled and automatic procedures coexist. An animated sequence of a navigation scene is generated by a pro...
متن کاملHierarchical Approach to Transfer of Control in Semi-Autonomous Systems
Semi-Autonomous Systems (SAS) describe a class of systems that are explicitly controlled by both human and agent actors, incorporating the distinct capabilities of each. They are designed for domains that require quick and safe transfer of control between the agent and human, and embed control transfer decisions in the overall high-level plan. We formally define SAS as a hierarchical model and ...
